The VII Russian Conference <Clays-2025> is dedicated to the study of clays and clay minerals, their genesis, crystal chemistry, physicochemical properties, and applications in various industries. The aim is to bring together researchers and professionals to exchange knowledge and techniques, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and develop applied research. The objective of the conference is to create a platform for the exchange of experience and the formation of new scientific teams, bringing together leading experts, young scientists, and industry representatives in the field of clays and clay minerals.

SECTION 1. Crystallochemistry and structural properties of clay minerals and layered materials
The section covers the structural and crystallochemical aspects of clay minerals and layered materials. Key issues:
- crystal structure, crystal chemistry and phase transitions;
- modern diagnostic and research methods;
- Ion exchange properties and mechanisms of crystal lattice stabilization.
SECTION 2. Geology, mineralogy, geochemistry and genesis of clays
The section is dedicated to geological processes, mineralogy, and conditions of the formation of clays and clay minerals, as well as their genesis and synthesis in different environments. Key issues:
- clay formation in various geologic settings, including soils and paleo-soils;
- mineralogy and geochemistry of clays, including the use of clay minerals for facies analysis and paleogeographic reconstructions;
- synthesis of clay materials to study processes in natural systems.
SECTION 3. Properties of clays and layered materials and their application in industry
The section focuses on various properties of clay minerals and layered materials, such as:
- thermal and mechanical properties of clay minerals;
- interaction of clays with water, organic and inorganic substances;
- colloidal properties, rheology and stability of clays in various solutions.
The section also focuses on applications of clays in other industrial sectors, such as:
- application of clays in drilling and plugging fluids;
- modification of clays to improve the efficiency of drilling and hydrocarbon production;
- use of clays in construction materials such as cements and ceramics;
- utilization of sludge and waste from the oil and gas sector.
SECTION 4. Ecological utilization of clay minerals and layered materials, including disposal of toxic wastes
The section covers a wide range of environmentally desirable applications of clay minerals and layered materials. Key issues:
- clays as barrier and sorption materials for radioactive and toxic waste disposal;
- sorption properties of layered minerals and materials and their use in water and soil treatment;
- use of clay minerals and layered materials in agriculture for soil improvement and the protection and restoration of ecosystems.
SECTION 5. Computer modeling and artificial intelligence in the science of clay minerals and layered materials
The section brings together recent advances in computational modeling and artificial intelligence in the study of clay minerals and layered materials. Key issues:
- quantum chemical calculations and classical molecular modeling of layered minerals and their interactions with liquid and gaseous media;
- application of AI and machine learning to predict the properties of clays and layered materials and optimize their use;
- computer modeling of durability of barrier systems and other artificial structures based on clays and layered materials.
